Choosing your roles

The roles you can apply for, and which ones leagues can book through League OS.

Overview

Your roles say what you can be booked for. Each role has its own application, and StatsCentral checks it before the role shows as verified. You can apply for one role now and add more later.

The roles

The role picker, Which role do you want to apply for?, groups the roles three ways:

Group Roles
Game officials Statistician (records live game stats), Referee (officiates the game), Umpire (officiates from the chair or plate), Scorekeeper (keeps the official scoresheet)
Media and content Media / Writer (writes recaps and features), Photographer (shoots game-day photos), Videographer (films games and highlights), Announcer (calls the game for the crowd)
Team staff Coach (coaches teams and players), Trainer / Medic (keeps players fit and safe)

Which roles leagues can book in League OS

Only game official roles can be booked through League OS. Once one is verified and your email is confirmed:

  • you appear in the League OS officials marketplace, where league admins send you offers, and
  • leagues can assign you to their games.

When a league hires you, the offer names the role it's hiring you for. A statistician or scorekeeper is assigned to the game as its scorer, and a referee or umpire as its referee.

Media, content and team staff roles show as verified on your services page and public page, but they don't put you in the League OS marketplace.

Picking a role

  1. Go to Dashboard and click Apply for another role. On your first visit you land on the picker straight after the welcome screen.
  2. Choose one role. Roles you've already applied for show their status, for example Under review or Verified, instead of a choice.
  3. Click Continue to answer that role's questions.

Apply for each role you genuinely work in, one at a time. A referee's experience and references say nothing about their photography, so StatsCentral reviews each role on its own.

Edge cases

  • You work several game roles — apply for each one. A league that hires you picks which of your verified roles the offer is for.
  • Every role is taken — the picker says You've applied for every role we offer. Withdraw an application from your dashboard if you need to start one again.
